I think I’m a Bad Bride.

BRIDAL(but make it honest, not insufferable)
I don’t know exactly when I thought it would happen, the shift.
The moment where everything softens and clicks into place and I suddenly feel like a bride.
Not just someone planning a wedding. Not just someone answering emails and making decisions. But someone who has fully stepped into whatever that identity is supposed to be for this last year+
A feeling. A certainty. A kind of glow...
It hasn’t. At least not in the way I expected.
Instead, I feel like theres more opinions to filter through. More decisions that somehow all land back on me. It’s not bad. It’s just not always, ummm, not always fuckin enjoyable?
And somewhere in the middle of that realization, I had the thought I don’t think brides are supposed to say out loud:
I think I might be a bad bride.
Not in a dramatic way. I’m not completely unraveling, I’m not refusing to participate. Not that I dont have friends who give me space to vent & express, I’m just not particularly sentimental about things I was told would matter.
I don’t care about half the details, yet im stressing over how it will all come together. I’m not deeply moved by chair linens or fancy paper or whether something feels “traditional”. I care about a few things, very specifically to me and the rest feels like noise that’s just getting louder.
Which, apparentlyyy, isn’t the right kind of energy.
There’s an unspoken expectation that being a “good bride” means being visibly invested in everything. That you’re supposed to light up at every decision, find meaning in every detail, respond with a kind of consistent, elevated enthusiasm.
And I don’t.
Not because I don’t care at all, but because I care selectively. somehow, that selectiveness feels, at times, like over thinking, revisiting decisions I made months ago. Constantly trying to keep up with the god damn f★ckn timeline, like a failure.
And don’t get me started on Bridal content, that shit doesn’t help.
It makes everything look softer than it feels. As if you just have manic magic of quick decision making and your wedding planner is youR BEST FRIEND OMG!! FUNNY because our original ones, sucked, didn’t do shit and just took our money, with a very short end cunt response to us firing them. Just lovely people may I say!
The girls in the videos are glowing in natural light, holding champagne, smiling through fittings, crying at the right moments. Everything looks intentional, emotional, cinematic. There’s no friction. No second-guessing. No flat, in-between days where you feel completely neutral about something that’s supposed to be one of the most meaningful experiences of your life.
Pulease, I’m still picking out my damn looks(don’t get me started, I know)
Or if I even want cake or a dessert table, what flavor, what stupid forks or spoons to choose from???
You start to wonder if you’re missing something.
Or worse, if something is missing from you.
Because the reality is much less aesthetic.
It’s emails and timelines and low-level decision fatigue that never really turns off. It’s being asked what you want, over and over again, and realizing how often you don’t have a clear answer. It’s excitement in flashes, followed by long stretches of just… processing.
Somewhere between excited and detached.
And no one really talks about that middle space.
There’s also a kind of quiet loneliness to it that I didn’t expect, Not in a sad way. Just in a structural way?
And then there’s people around offering(mostly never asked)opinions, asking questions, expressing excitement with a touch of back handed comments. Meanwhile you’re the one who has to decide everything. The one who has to care enough to move things forward. The one who sits with the weight of it & I think, that’s the part that feels the most disorienting.
The version of me in my head, the one I imagined in this phase feels softer, more effortlessly feminine, more emotionally immersed. Feeling like my “Best” physical form, the version of me in real life is more practical. More decisive. Sometimes tired. Occasionally indifferent. And I think that difference is where the guilt comes from.
There’s a version of this you’re supposed to live up to and anything outside of it feels slightly off.
Knowing people are taking time out of thier schedule and travel to celebrate you! And in the middle of all of it when I zoom out of it, I’m reminded of the part that actually matters.
The friends who check in, who hype you up without being asked, who say they’re excited and mean it. The people who make space for you to feel however you feel, and still show up fully. That part is easy. That part feels real. And it makes all the planning, all the decisions, all the back-and-forth worth it, because at the end of this, it’s just a room full of people you love, dressed up, drinking(& better be a double) laughing too loud, and dancing like it’s the only thing that matters.
It makes me genuinely excited for what comes after♡
With the same people still around, still showing up, just in different ways. The ones who saw the chaos, the indecision, the minor(Many)spirals, and stayed steady through all of it. The ones you’ll laugh with later about how this whole process somehow became your entire personality, how intense it felt in the moment and how funny it sounds after the fact.
It makes it less about getting it all right, and more about who you’re doing it with.
Maybe being a “good bride” has less to do with how visibly excited you are about every detail, and more to do with knowing what actually matters to you & letting the rest fall away without guilt.
Maybe it’s okay that I don’t feel like the bride in the content I saved.
And maybe the truth is just,
I’m not a bad f☆ing bride.
