What Happens When Care Is Cut Off: On Abortion, Privilege, and the Fight for Planned Parenthood.

What it means to have a choice, and what it means when its taken away.

When I had my abortion, I was surrounded by support. I had access to transportation. I had a safe place to go after with comfort and love. I had people in my life who helped me through the emotional weight of it, even now, years later, I still feel that weight in moments I can’t always predict. I was that Bitch saying, “hOw Do yoU noT kNoW you’re pregnant!? I totally would tell if I was!”. OOOOH man did karma get my naive ASS. I am among many other women who didn’t know until I went to the doctors thinking I just had a UTI or yeast infection.

But I was lucky. I got immediate help & access, and that’s the problem.
Right now, millions of people in America are being stripped of access to essential reproductive healthcare, not just abortions; but STI screenings, cancer checks, birth control, and basic medical support. And with the newest legislation signed by Donald Trump, that access is being pushed even further out of reach.

What’s Happening with Planned Parenthood Right Now?

In early July 2025, Trump signed a new federal spending bill that contains a quiet but brutal attack on reproductive healthcare. The bill bans Medicaid reimbursements to any clinic that provides abortions and what’s happening now isn’t just political maneuvering, it’s a direct assault on bodily autonomy, dignity, and the basic human right to make decisions about our own lives.

When clinics are defunded, when doctors are threatened, and when people are forced to travel hundreds of miles just to get a legal, safe procedure, we are saying to women:
You don’t matter. Your pain doesn’t matter. Your circumstances don’t matter.

For thousands of women, this isn’t just about abortion, it’s about being denied the right to choose survival, to prioritize their mental health, their safety and their future. It's about being told that your body is no longer yours if the state decides otherwise.

These are decisions that no politician, especially not one who will never experience pregnancy, should ever have the power to make.

And here’s the truth that makes me ache:
I was able to make the choice I needed to because I had support. I had money. I had time.
So many don’t. And that’s who these bans will hurt the most, including:
  • Low-income women
  • Women of color
  • Young people
  • Rural communities
  • Survivors of abuse
  • People already fighting every day to survive
These will be the ones who are left with no options.

This Is About More Than Politics

This is about freedom.
The freedom to plan your life.
The freedom to decide when and if you become a parent.
The freedom to be safe, cared for, and trusted.

No one gets to take that away, not even a former president in a suit with a pen and looks like an orange piece of flaming shit.

What You Can Do

If you’re angry, you are not alone. If you’re scared, I see you. If you’ve been through it, I’m with you.

Here’s how we push back:
  • Donate to abortion funds that directly help people get the care they need.
  • Support clinics, even just boosting their posts or writing a kind message matters.
  • Talk about it. Loudly, Publicly, Openly. Shame lives in silence, but power lives in truth.
  • Vote/ Register to vote. Down-ballot for every election, Every year.

We deserve more than survival, we deserve our human rights, joy, and care. Let’s make sure the next generation gets to have that without shame or fear.

I’m standing in this fight, not just because I had an abortion, but because I believe in a world where no one has to be lucky to access basic human rights.

With love,
Ivy
